A nice press article about Kuangukuangu, an unexpected accommodation near Sossusvlei and Solitaire in Namibia, Nov 2010.

Nov 27, 2010 The Times

« Another slice of Africanwilderness that would have suited a royal proposal, KuanguKuangu overlooks a multi-hued valley. Seamlessly blending with the landscape, the one-room hideaway with alfresco kitchen and bathroom fuses logs, canvas and stone with earthy coloursand vast windows—a formula for solitude, sitting and staring.Thenamecomes from the Ovambo people’s word for the Milky Way, a nod to the astonishing night sky. » The Times, Nov 27, 2010.

Namibie = Paradis

A normal day in Namibia, at KuanguKuangu

Arrived at KuanguKuangu by 16h. We were kept very busy it seemed, so had little time to relax. The sundowner trip was the best we had, a table laid by Willem with good snacks and a super sunset. The highlight was, of course, Sossusvlei with dune climbing, lots of picture taking and a champagne(ish) breakfast, etc etc to cap it all! Returning via Sesriem Canyon we were pretty tired when we got back.

KuanguKuangu is a luxurious lodge but with an environmental ethos. The Cabin is quite extraordinary for the detail, comfort, style and views. One of our best places in Namibia!

Our trip to Solitaire and Sossusvlei

After a detour to Solitaire to repair our first of 3 punctures, this place is something else with a  » display » of old rusting vehicles and a helpful garage and of course the bakery with freshly baked goodies and the famous apple pie!, we arrived early evening from Windhoek.
A welcome drink awaited and we were shown KuanguKuangu Cabin.

The views at sunset were stunning. The night sky even better.

We had a braai pack, and enjoyed a wonderful Namibian evening.

We opted to do the trip to Sossusvlei ourselves. Doing the trip ourselves was fine and very easy to do… the shuttle for the last 4×4 5km to Deadvlei was regular and worked out well.

KuanguKuangu is an excellent place to stay a couple of nights in Namibia.

A special honeymoon in Namibia

KuanguKuangu was our favourite lodge of the honeymoon in Namibia. We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived from Windhoek. Willem was superb, so very knowledgeable and kind. We had a braai pack on our first night, at the cabin. The food was absolutely fantastic. It was very special. A dinner for 2, alone in the Namib  desert.

Next morning  we went to Sossusvlei  dunes with Willem (he was very helpful and knowledgeable; cold drinks on arrival were a very nice touch). The early light on the dunes was very beautiful. There were only 4 of us in total so we could enjoy walking on the Sossusvlei dunes at our own pace. The climb up dune 45 was definitely worth it – and not too hot early in the morning.

Then we went to Dead Vlei where we chose to spend quite a bit of time – such a strange place. The trip finished with a real banquet of a brunch under the  trees -  which was delicious!

We chose  to drive ourselves to Sesriem canyon rather than take the guided trip which was quite practicable and definitely worth doing.
The next day we went to Naukluft park for a day walk. We enjoyed very much. Then a nice dinner back “home”.

KuanguyKuangu  was a wonderful experience with such personal service and lots of fun. Attention to detail was amazing and the whole experience was really outstanding. Another five star rating for KuanguKuangu.
This is truly a special place and we would love to return again one day if we come back to Namibia
